LibRR1 Round 6: Ready to Use or Give Away

Change your project into a quilt!  Make the sandwich and join it together and close it up!

Let us know what is going to happen to your project once it is completed!

Take pictures and share!

Round 6 is added so you can show your project after it's quilted, bound, and ready to use or give away!

(I misread the notes - this was supposed to be the ending step after embellishing and finishing up - June)

LibRR1 Round 5: Embellish and Finish

Now is the time to add the finishing touches to your quilt.

Make it bigger or longer, if you wish.

Wrap up this gorgeous creation by adding whatever it needs!

And if it’s “just right” the way it is, rejoice!

Please post a photo of your project after you have adding anything new, along with notes so we can all learn from your process.

Label the post with your name and Round 5 Embellish and Finish, to show how you finish the top of your project!

LibRR1 Round 4: Curves

Thank you again to all of you who are participating in this online Liberated Round Robin! It's been inspiring to see your creativity!

Those of us needing more time to get caught up, or if you want to add even more rounds inbetween the ones we have suggested - of course go ahead!

For those ready to more on >>>>> Wouldn't it be fun to add some curves to your project?

You can do this by doing applique, sewing bias strips down, sewing circles, making curves seams with different fabric, or _________ (you fill in the blank with your idea!).

As before: please post a photo on this blog when you complete the round (include the measurements and the URL of your blog), and if you have used an internet resource to construct your curved round, do share the link with us or just tell us what you were thinking as you worked on your project.  Check back to see what others have done - and do write comments!

Also, be sure to click to verify that the correct information for you has been added to the Who We Are page.

We have at least three weeks to work on this round; our next and final step for this first Liberated Round Robin will be posted on August 12th.**  We may push this date back a week or so, to give everyone more of a chance to get caught up.

If there is interest, we'd like to do another Liberated Round Robin sometime in the fall - but this time it will be set up so different people (who participated in this first LibRR) will be able to sign up to write up the directions for a round! An email will be sent out in September.

LibRR1 Round 3: Strips, Strings and Rectangles

Make one or more borders using these elements. Run them horizontally or vertically; make wonky log cabins or string blocks; cut stripsets into other shapes; or add liberated letters.

Remember that squares are also in the rectangle family....try liberating Bargello, Irish Chain, or Trip Around the World blocks, to name a few.

Add plain borders as needed to make your quilt visually pleasing.

Added July 5th by JD: Please include the measurements of your project in your post and double check the Who We Are page to be sure the correct information is included for you!

LibRR1 Round 2: Squares!

Thank you to everyone participating in the Liberated Round Robin! I'm in awe of the different ways you have interpreted Round 1: Triangles!

If you are liking triangles and want to expand those in your project - go ahead!  *
But it might be time to think of squares.  Wouldn't your quilt be happier with a set of squares going around one to four sides of your triangles?  I think so..... Go for it!
Line your squares up so they are all the same size - or make a four-patch and then add a square that is the size of the four-patch. Make a nine-patch, or sixteen-patch. Have squares of different sizes floating on a background. Be controlled by limiting the number of fabrics you use, or be scrappy.
Do what ever square addition you want - but remember the idea of a square is the shape to focus on for this round.
As you finish your square addition, please post a photo of your project on this blog (label it with your name and Round 2 Squares). If you have a blog, and would like us to visit you, include the URL in your post. If you found inspiration or directions online, please include the URLs in your post. Also, take a little time to look at what others have posted and add to the comments!

Added June 26th: Please include the measurements of your project in your post!
* BTW: If you need more time to work on your Round 1: Triangles, that's okay! We hope you will also eventually be adding Round 2: Squares to your center block for the Liberated Round Robin!
Round 3 will be posted in three weeks (July 1st)!

LibRR1 Round 1: Triangles!

I have loved seeing everyone's first blocks! Everyone is so creative!
Now it's time to add on...

Using liberated triangles, add one or more pieced strips around your initial block. These could include half-square triangles, a dog-tooth border, tall skinny triangles, or short squat triangles. Stars and diamonds can be made from triangle units, too.

All four sides do not have to be the same design.
You may opt for assymmetrical borders, adding them to only 1 or 2 sides.
Add plain borders between the rounds, as desired.

Please post a photo on this blog when you complete the round, and if you have used an internet resource to construct your border, please share the link.

You have 3 weeks to work on this step; our next round will be posted on June 10.

LibRR1 Step One: Center Block

Start now....

Work on creating your initial block. This block doesn't need to end up in the center of your quilt but it will probably help you determine the colors that will be used in the rest of the project. The size of the block will influence the sizes of your additional rows and blocks!

Step One is below!

We've been chattering about the Liberated Round Robin for a little while....
Have you created a center block yet? Perhaps you’ve opted to use an orphan block. It’s time to pick your color scheme; choose some fabrics; think about the finished size...for we’ll be starting our first round in just one week!
Although this step is called Center Block, your initial block does not need to end up in the center of your quilt!  This first block will probably help you determine the colors that will be used in the rest of the project. The size of the block will influence the sizes of your additional rows and blocks!

As you finish each step, share your block and, if you like, the story behind your decision. If you referred to a book or website for inspiration, please include that information. Send an email to junedodge@gmail.com requesting access to post photos on the Liberated Round Robin blog. Be sure to include the URL of your blog so a list of participants can be created. Label your initial photo post with your first name and ‘Center Block’ so it’s easy to find posts later on! If you'd like to post some discussion about the center block - labeling it Discussion Center Block will make it easy for people to find and follow the posts!
New rounds will be posted Fridays, on the following dates:
May 20, June 10, July 1, July 22, August 12
